Principal’s Message

Welcome to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School, Caringbah. May your child find our school a place of friendship, joy, discovery, challenge and learning.

Our school strives to promote excellence in education and a love of lifelong learning in the 21st-century world. A high priority for our school is the identification of student’s learning styles, and how best to stimulate and support their learning by implementing specialised programs. A range of Gifted and Intervention programs provided at our school assist in developing students’ skills and prepare them to participate in a rapidly changing world and contribute to Australia’s future development and prosperity. Our school has a strong focus on supporting the learning of students with identified special needs, implementing effective individual learning programs designed to cater to the specific needs of the child.

At Our Lady of Fatima, students have the opportunity to engage in a range of STEM activities utilising digital technologies to develop an understanding based on evidence and reason. Skills developed in these areas enable students to participate responsibly in developing innovative ideas and solutions in response to questions and situations relevant to personal, social and environmental issues.

Here at Our Lady of Fatima, we work hand in hand with our Parish and families to give our children the message that each one of them is seen as unique and very special, loved by their parents, cared for by their community and loved by their God. Our school Motto, ‘To Love and Serve Under Your Protection,’ calls us to place our faith in God and forms the basis of our open and welcoming school community.

History
In 1949, the then priest of the Cronulla parish, Monsignor James Donovan, proposed to establish a building on the site of the current school to be used as a church and school. He proposed this to cater for the Catholic population of Caringbah, who at that time had to travel to Cronulla to take part in parish activities.

The construction of this building was completed in 1949 and was dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. This became a Church and a school in 1950. The new school was staffed by dedicated nuns from the Order of the Sisters of Mercy. The enrolment on the first day was 78. The staff consisted of Sister Mary Malachy McGrath and Sister Mary Chanel James. The Sisters travelled each day from the Convent in Coast Avenue, South Cronulla (where Stella Maris is today).

Charism

  • Our Lady of Fatima was founded by the Sisters of Mercy. This order was started by Catherine McAuley in Ireland in the 1800’s.
  • We follow the Mercy Values of Spirituality, Community, Service, Social Justice and Works of Mercy,
  • These values allow us to focus on the mission of the Sisters of Mercy as well as our core mission to follow the example of Jesus Christ.

Mission
Together in faith, we inspire and empower success for all.

Vision
All learners are thinkers, creators and innovators in a changing world.

Mercy Values
Spirituality, Community, Service, Social Justice and Works of Mercy.

Our school recognises its role in bringing the Gospel alive in our community and sharing the values of the Catholic Church.

The parish, families, students and staff work hard to help those less fortunate. As well as this, our school recognises our role within the culture of the local community and have strong ties with local groups and organisations.

Our interaction with the Parish includes:

  • Sacramental Program for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation
  • Weekly Mass
  • Regular Reconciliation
  • Support for the Parish St Vincent de Paul conference

Our school is one of the ministries of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. We enjoy a strong, mutually supportive working relationship with the Parish team. This team is led by our Parish Priest, Father Julian Bellich.
